Crownwick Advances, a small-business funding service in Lancaster, PA, arranges inventory financing for shops, parts counters and distributors that must buy stock before they sell it. The goods usually secure the funding; partners review sales history, turnover and deposits, then set the amount and terms.

The mechanics of stock funding
Inventory financing is money advanced to buy goods you plan to resell or use in your work, with those goods normally pledged as collateral. Some arrangements fund a single purchase order; others set a revolving limit tied to the value of stock on hand. Either way, the partner is lending against something it can count, which is why sales history and turnover matter here.
The cleanest files show three things: what you are buying and from whom, how quickly that kind of stock has sold before, and where it will be kept. A loan to buy inventory that sits for a year is a different risk from one that turns in six weeks.
Buying stock before the sales arrive
Retailers may have to commit to orders before the customers show up, and a supplier minimum can be bigger than a month's spare cash. Retail was the second-largest sector by employer establishments in Lancaster County in 2023, at 1,887, and the ZIP 17602 area alone held 227 retail establishments (County Business Patterns and ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023). The retailers and shop owners page covers boutique, hardware and furniture stock in more detail.
Fuel and convenience stores carry a different kind of stock, with fuel and store goods bought from different suppliers. The gas stations and convenience stores page explains how partners look at that cycle.
Parts rooms in repair shops and the trades
Shops are not the only stock-holders. Repair businesses keep filters, belts, pads and fluids on hand; trades keep fittings, wire and fixtures. Lancaster County had 443 auto repair and maintenance establishments in 2023 (CBP 2023); a parts room is one place those shops carry stock. See the auto repair shops page and our post on auto repair shop funding in Lancaster, PA for parts and lift questions together.
A hypothetical parts order
As an illustration only: a shop orders $12,600 of brake and suspension parts to secure a supplier price break. If its records show that kind of stock usually turns within about two months, a partner can match the repayment to that turnover rather than to a long fixed term.
When a revolving line beats dedicated stock funding
A business line of credit can buy stock too, and it is more flexible: the same limit pays for stock in one month and payroll in the next. Inventory financing is narrower but leans on the goods themselves, which can matter when a business has plenty of stock but a thinner credit history. A business that buys in large, predictable batches may suit the dedicated product; one with many small orders may suit the line.
If the stock is a one-time fit-out of a new store, a term loan may cover shelving and opening stock together.
Business loan to purchase inventory: what partners review
- Recent business bank statements and sales history
- The supplier quote, purchase order or invoice
- How fast that inventory has turned in the past
- Where the goods are stored and whether they are insured
- Existing liens on inventory or receivables
Inventory financing for a small business may involve a lien on the goods; ask the partner what it will file and where before you sign.
Where this fits among the six options
If the goods are machines rather than stock, use equipment financing. If sales are mostly card payments and the need is short, some owners also look at a merchant cash advance, which is not a loan; compare the total remitted against the inventory financing cost. The comparison page covers all six, and how it works explains the review.
